What is Microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a skin treatment that uses an electric pen-like device that has a replaceable chamber that contains 12 very fine needles. The needles rapidly penetrate the skin creating hundreds of channels that trick the skin into thinking there is an injury. This then triggers the skin's own repair system. Creating synthesis of new collagen and elastin.
Is Microneedling painful?
There is mild discomfort,. However, it is minimized by the use of a topical numbing cream that is applied prior to treatment. The procedure is typically performed in under twenty minutes with no need for reapplication of numbing agents.
Will I be red following the treatment?
Redness and mild swelling is normal post procedure. Blood flow to the treated area is normal and encouraged. Redness and swelling usually goes away within 24 hours.
Is it possible to get an infection after the treatment?
It is unlikely to develop an infection after the treatment. The microscopic channels close quickly and a new, sterilized hypodermic needle chamber is used for every guest.
What should I avoid after microneedling?
Following Microneedling, AHAs, retinols or any active ingredients should be avoided for 2-3 days post procedure. Sun exposure is also not recommended following the treatment and sunblock is recommended.
How does Microneedling improve the skin?
Microneedling is known to improve several skin concerns. It greatly improves acne scaring, stimulates collagen production, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, regenerates skin tissue, minimizes large pores, improves the skins texture and reduces the appearance of stretch marks.
How do I know if I'm a candidate for Microneedling?
Great news...Microneedling can be preformed on any skin type and Fitzpatrick. During the treatment your epidermis is not damaged. Chances for hyper pigmentation or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is extremely minimal. Clients taking Accutane, expectant moms and those with a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars and those under radiation therapy are not candidates for microneedling.
Are there any side effects related to Microneedling?
There are no known side effects from microneedling.
What is the downtime of Microneedling?
Inflamation of the skin usually subsides after a few hours. Those with more sensitive skin can have inflammation and redness for up to 48 hours after the treatment. Vitamin C serums, moisturizers and sunblock are recommended after microneedling.
